Ariyalur District is an Administrative district in the state of Tamilnadu in India. The district headquarters is located at Ariyalur .The district encompasses an area of 1,949.31 km and had a population of 752,481as per 2011 census .
Ariyalur is notes as for its cement industries and have huge reserves of lignite Gangaikonda Choloapuram Built by the king of Rajendra Cholan of Chola Empires, and UNESCO world Heritage site is situated in the district .
Ariyalur District was curved out of Perambalur District on January 1 2001 .But it was merged with perambalur district on March 31 2002. Ariyalur was re carved Nov 23 2007.The district is bordered by the district on cudalore to the north and north east , Nagapattanam to the east, Thanjavur to south and south east ,Thiruchurapalli to the south west ,and perambalur to the west .
Ariyalur is the town and district headquarters of Ariyalur District in the South Indian State of Tamilnadu .The town is located at the distance of 310 km (190 ml) from the state capital of Chennai .
